The Privacy options section is broken up into four subsections, Subscription rules, Sender filters, Recipient filters, and Spam Filters.
Advertised Option
The advertised option controls whether this list is displayed when someone visits https://email.rutgers.edu/mailman/listinfo.
Subscribe Policy
The subscribe_policy controls what steps are needed to subscribe. This is one of the seven pieces of information required on the new list request form.
Confirm means that subscribers will have to respond to an email Mailman will send them.
Requires approval means the Administrator will get an email from Mailman asking the Administrator to deny or approve the subscribers.
Confirm and approve means the subscriber will have to confirm their email and Mailman will request approval from the Administrator.
Unsubscribe Policy
The unsubscribe_policy option allows you to require moderator approval before someone may unsubscribe from a list.
Ban List
The ban_list option allows you to ban specific email addresses from joining your list.
Private Roster
The private_roster options controls who may view the list of subscribers. The options are Anyone, List Members, or List Administrators. Anyone is not recommended.
Obscure Address
The obscure_addresses option alters the appearance of email addresses on the list web pages. The address myaddress@rutgers.edu becomes myaddress at rutgers.edu in the hopes of thwarting spammers.
