Migrating From RUMail to ScarletMail

The following documentation will walk through the process of migrating your RUMail account to ScarletMail.  You will be walked through the following:

  1. Activating ScarletMail
  2. Importing Email from RUMail to ScarletMail
  3. Importing Calendars from RUMail to ScarletMail
  4. Importing Address Books from RUMail to ScarletMail

 

Activating ScarletMail 

  1. Go to http://netid.rutgers.edu

  2. Click on Service Activation

  3. Log in with your NetID and Password

  4. If you see [You already have this account.] listed for ScarletApps, including ScarletMail Google for Rutgers then you already have an account and do not need to activate the service

  5. Otherwise check off the selection for ScarletApps, including ScarletMail Google for Rutgers and click on Activate Services

Importing Email from RUMail to ScarletMail

  1. Open your scarletmail account (http://mail.scarletmail.rutgers.edu)
  2.  Open the settings by going to the "gear icon" then "Settings"
  3. Select the Accounts Tab
  4. Click "Add a POP3 mail account you own"
  5. enter your RUMail email account and click Next
  6. Use the following settings
        - Username: <netid>@domain.rutgers.edu
        - Password: Your Rutgers NetID Password
        - POP Server: rumail.rutgers.edu
        - Port: 995
        - Check Always User a Secure Connection (SSL)
  7. Click "Add Account"
  8. Select "No" and then click finish

This will import all mail in your Inbox to ScarletMail. To import mail in other foders do the following:

  1. Set up a Mail Client for ScarletMail
  2. Set up a Mail Client for RUMail

Click and drag the folders in RUMail into the ScarletMail account.

Importing Calendars from RUMail to ScarletMail

In order to import your calendar from your RUmail account to your Scarletmail account, you will first need to export the calendar from your RUmail account and save it as an ics file.

  1. To begin, select “preferences” in your RUmail account and then select “import/export”
  2. Next, select “Calendar” as the type in the Export section

  3. Click on the box next to “Source”

  4. This will open a new dialog box as your menu, select your Calendar and click “OK”

  5. Now that you have selected the Type and Source, you can click on “Export”

  6. This will open a dialog box, select “Save File” and then click on “OK.” (Remember this file name as you will need to find it later.)

  7. Now that you have exported your Calendar from RUmail and saved it as an ics file, you can log into your Scarletmail account (mail.scarletmail.rutgers.edu) using your NetID and Password

  8. Once you have logged into your Scarletmail account, click on the Google Apps menu on the top, right hand side of your screen

  9. Once your calendar has opened, click on the settings menu.  It will appear as a gear icon on the top right hand side of you screen. 

  10. From the drop down menu, click “settings”

  11. Next, click on the “Calendars” tab

  12. Under the “Create New Calendar” heading, click on “Import Calendar”

  13. This will open a new dialog box.  Click on “browse” to select your Calendar.ics file that you saved earlier from RUmail

  14. Click “Import”

  15. After you have clicked on “Import” and Scarletmail has completed importing your Calendar, you will get a dialog box to inform you that your Calendar events have been imported successfully

Importing Address Books From RUMail to ScarletMail

  1. In order to import your address book from your RUmail account to your Scarletmail account, you will first need to export the address book from your RUmail account and save it as a csv file
    • To export your address book from RU mail, click on preferences, then select “import/export”
    • Select “Contacts” from under the “Export” section, and then select “Account Contacts” from the drop down menu. Choose “contacts” as the Source
    • Click on the “export” button
    • After you have clicked on “Export”, a new box will pop up asking if you want to open the file or save it.  You want to save the contacts.csv file.
  2. Once you have exported and saved your contact list from your RUmail account, you can proceed to import your address book into your Scarletmail account.

    • Log into your Scarletmail account (mail.scarletmail.rutgers.edu) using your NetID and NetID password.

    • Click on the Google Apps button at the top right hand side of the screen

    • This will open a drop down menu where you will want to select “Contacts”

    • Click on the drop down menu at the left top of the screen that says “More”

    • From the drop down menu, select “import

    • This will bring up a new window where you can browse for the Contacts.csv file that you saved

    • Click on “browse” and select the Contacts.csv file

    • Once you’ve selected the Contacts.csv file, click on “Open”

    • Now that the Contacts.csv file is listed next to the “Browse” button, click on “Import”

    • Once this has been completed, Scarletmail will display the contacts that were imported as well as the number of contacts that were imported.
