Setting Up ScarletMail To Use Your Official Rutgers Email Address

These instructions can be used to set up ScarletMail so that emails sent from the account will have your Official Rutgers Email Address as the From Address instead of netid@scarletmail.rutgers.edu.

  • Configuring ScarletMail for Less Secure Apps

    Recently Google has implemented security settings on Google Apps and Google Apps for Education. Setting Up ScarletMail To Use Your Official Rutgers Email Address does not support these new security settings yet. For this reason when setting up ScarletMail To Use Your Official Rutgers Email Address these new security settings will need to be disabled for the account. To disable this please do the following:

 

 

Go to http://accounts.google.com and enter your ScarletMail Email Address. Click Next.

 

 

Enter your Rutgers NetID and password. Click Login.

 

 

Click on Connected apps & sites under Sign-in & security.

 

 

Make sure Allow less secure apps is listed as ON.

 

  • Setting or resetting your ScarletApps Mobile/IMAP/POP Password

     

    In order to set your Official Rutgers Email Address as your From Address in ScarletMail you will need to first set, or if you have forgotten, reset your ScarletApps Mobile/IMAP/POP Password. To do this go to: https://netid.rutgers.edu and click on Manage Your ScarletApps Mobile/IMAP/POP Password.

 

 

Log in with your Rutgers NetID and Password

 

 

Set your password and click on the Change ScarletApps Password. This will be a special password that will only be used when setting up ScarletMail on a Mobile Device or in any other program that uses IMAP or POP email protocols.

 
  • Set up ScarletMail to use your Official Rutgers Email Address as a From Address

     

    Go to http://scarletmail.rutgers.edu and click on the ScarletMail Icon. You will be asked to log in with your NetID and password.

 

 

Click on the Gear Icon in the upper right of the screen and select Settings

 

 

Click on the Accounts link

 

 

By default ScarletMail is set up to send email as the netid@scarletmail.rutgers.edu address. Click on Add another email address you own.

 

 

Fill out the following information:

  • Name: Your first and last name should go here
  • Email Address: This should be your Official Rutgers Email Address

Note: If you are not sure what your Official Rutgers Email Address is you can check what you have listed by going to http://netid.rutgers.edu and click on Manage Email Address. On that screen your Official Rutgers Email Address should be listed.

Click on Next Step.

 
 

 

If you only have an email account on ScarletMail or a department email system you will need to use the following settings:

  • SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
  • Port: 587
  • Username: Your ScarletMail email address
  • Password: Your ScarletApps Mobile/IMAP/POP Password
  • Check off Secured Connection TLS

Click on Add Account.

 

 

An email will be sent to your Official Rutgers Email Address with a verification code.

 

 

Copy the Confirmation Code and paste it into the Confirm Verification box and click Verify. Alternatively clicking on the link in the Email that you received will also finish the Verification step.

 

 

In the ScarletMail Settings page in the Accounts Tab, click make default to set the Official Rutgers Email Address as the default From address when sending email.
