Before attempting to configure Scarletmail with Mac Mail be sure Scarletmail account is activated.
Create ScarletApps Mobile/IMAP/POP Password
In order to be able to use a mail client with Scarletmail users must create a ScarletApps Mobile/IMAP/POP Password. If they have not done so already please make sure users configure this password before walking them through configuring a mobile email or mail client. NOTE: This password can be different than NetID password since it is configured separately.
- Go to netid.rutgers.edu
- Click on Manage Your ScarletApps Mobile/IMAP/POP Password
Log in with NetID and password.
Enter ScarletApps Mobile/IMAP/POP Password. Follow guidelines listed above the box. This password will be used when configuring mobile and desktop email clients.
Enable IMAP in Scarletmail
Go to scarletmail.rutgers.edu and click on ScarletMail. Log in with NetID and password.
Click on the gear located at the top right of the screen and select Settings.
Click on the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab across the top of the screen. Make sure that the bubble that says Enable IMAP is selected. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the screen. After the settings are saved the Status above the Enable IMAP bubble should say IMAP is enabled in green as shown above.
Configuring Mac Mail with Scarletmail
Open the Mail program on your Mac. Select Mail, click Preferences, then choose Accounts.
Click the + to create a new email account .
At the Add Account Screen, type in your name, scarletmail address, and the ScarletApps Mobile/IMAP/POP Password.
For account type, select IMAP. The incoming server name is imap.gmail.com
NOTE: for username, type the full scarletmail email address - email@example.com
For Incoming Mail Security, check the box for Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), and for authentication choose password.
For Outgoing Server configure with the following information:
- Description - (any description you like, ie: scarletmail-out)
- Outgoing mail server name - smtp.gmail.com
- Check the box for Use Authentication
Again, for username, make sure to use the full scarletmail email address - firstname.lastname@example.org and the ScarletApps Mobile/IMAP/POP Password.
- Check the box Take Account Online.
- Click on Create.
Now you can Drag and Drop email messages from other Rutgers accounts (eden, rci) to to ScarletMail Account. Please note that messages greater than 25 Mb in size will NOT be migrated to ScarletMail. If you attempt to move a message larger then 25 MB an error message will be displayed on the screen and the message will not be moved over.
You should now see your scarletmail email as an account in mac mail.
