Configuring Thunderbird for RCI Email

    Click on "Create a new account"

 
  • Account Creation

    Click on "Skip this and use my existing email" on the next prompt that appears.

 
  • Account Setup

     

    • Enter name as FirstName LastName
    • Enter email address as netid@rci.rutgers.edu (If this setup is for a shared Departmental Account, please enter the Departmental Account email address.)
    • Enter password as the netid password. (If this setup is for shared a Departmenatal Account please enter the password in the following format: yournetid:yournetidpassword).
 
  • Configure Server Settings

    Incoming Settings:

    • Make sure protocol is IMAP
    • Enter server hostname as rci.rutgers.edu.
    • Set the Port to 143
    • Set SSL to STARTTLS and Authentication to Normal password

    Outgoing Settings:

    • Enter server hostname as smtp.rutgers.edu
    • Set the Port to 587
    • Set SSL to STARTTLS and Authentication to Normal password
    • Set the Username to your netid

    Authorized users of departmental (on RCI) or organizational (on Eden) accounts should enter their personal RCI or Eden NetIDs, and the 
    case-sensitive password associated with each account, when sending e-mail. That is, they should not use the departmental or organizational account name 
    (with its associated special password) for sending, although it should be used for receiving mail from that account.

    Click Done and the account should be successfully set up.
