Retrieving MAC Addresses


Providing your MAC addresses may be necessary to troubleshoot wired and wireless issues properly, or to sign up for certain services. Locating a device's MAC address is dependent on its manufacturer. Below is a list of commonly used devices and their instructions on how to find the MAC address.

*An important note is that the wired mac address may sometimes be referred to as the RJ45 mac address.

MacOS

  1. Open System Preferences > Network
  2. Select Ethernet or Wi-Fi depending on connection type > Advanced
  3. Select the Hardware tab; it will be listed as MAC Address

Windows

  1. Run command prompt (cmd)
  2. Type ipconfig/all and select enter (on the keyboard)
  3. Scroll down to Ethernet or Wireless adapters
  4. It will be listed as Physical Address

Chromebooks

  1. If you haven't yet, sign in to your Chromebook.
  2. At the bottom right, select the time.
  3. Select the Wi-Fi network .
  4. At the top of the box, select Information .
  5. You'll see your Chromebook's IP address and IPv6 address. Your MAC address is labeled "Wi-Fi."

Alternate method for Windows 10

  1. Open Settings from the Start menu.
  2. Select Network and Internet
  3. Select View your network properties
  4. The MAC address is listed as Physical Address (MAC)

PlayStation 4

  1. On the main menu, navigate to Settings.
  2. Click > Network
  3. Navigate to View Connection Status.
  4. Here you will see the Wifi MAC Address and the Ethernet MAC Address.
  5. For 802.1x MAC Address Bypass, we will need the Ethernet MAC Address.

Xbox One

  1. Open the Guide
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select Network
  4. Select Advanced Settings
  5. The addresses should be labeled Wired MAC and Wireless MAC

Apple TV

  1. Select Settings
  2. Select General
  3. Select Network
  4. The MAC address will be listed as Ethernet Address

Android TV

  1. Select Settings
  2. Select Network
  3. Select Status
  4. The MAC Address will be listed here.

Roku

  1. The mac address is printed on the bottom or back of the Roku player
  2. Alternatively, from Roku home screen, select Settings > Network > Wired (Ethernet)
  3. Secret Menu option for Roku 3 or later (use the following key combination): Home, Home, Home, Home, Home, FF, FF, FF, RW, RW

Amazon Fire Stick

  1. From the Main Menu go to Settings
  2. Select System
  3. Go to About
  4. Toggle down to Network. Look for the MAC Address (Wi-Fi) on the right

Nintendo Switch

  1. Select System Settings from the home menu.
  2. Scroll down through the menu and select Internet.
  3. The MAC address will be listed under System MAC Address.
  4. Note: If the you  want to connect via ethernet cable, they will need a certified Nintendo adapter. If you have this, then you will need to use the adapter's MAC address rather than the switch's MAC address. The easiest way to get the MAC address (if it is not hardcoded into the adapter) is to have the user plug it into a Windows machine. Go to command prompt and type ipconfig/all scroll down until you see the adapter, and the mac address should be listed as the physical address.
